Half term events at Museums in Cardiff

School’s out for a week but there’s plenty of events, activities and exhibitions on at National Museum Cardiff and St Fagans National History Museum to keep the kids happy this half term 22-28 February whatever your interest, from art and crafts, archaeology, gardening to natural history – and admission is free!

Half term week is the last chance to see Wales’s prehistoric, Bronze Age and medieval treasures in their current form at National Museum Cardiff, before part of the collection is redisplayed at St Fagans National History Museum. Visit Origins: In Search of Early Wales at National Museum Cardiff before Monday, 3 March 2014 to see your favourite archaeological objects.

Join in the I Love Archaeology workshops where you’ll find out more about some of the collections and contribute to a piece of collaborative art. (22–28 Feb, 11am-4pm)

Discover more about Alfred Wallace the forgotten evolutionist in our brilliant natural history exhibition. Find out about the Victorian naturalist and explorer Alfred Russel Wallace in our family-friendly workshop Where’s Wallace? (22–28 Feb, 11am, 1pm & 3pm).

  • Sir Peter Blake presents his illustrations of Under Milk Wood at National Museum Cardiff. This major body of work is the culmination of a 25-year project and includes portraits, collages and illustrations from the fictional town of Llareggub.

  • Take part in the Illustration Workshop where you will work with an artist to illustrate familiar words using collage and drawing techniques. (25–28 Feb, 11.30am, 1.30pm & 3.30pm).

  • St Fagans National History Museum has a jam-packed programme of family-friendly activities that will entertain kids of all ages. The Museum’s famous Art Cart will be wheeled out every day during the holiday with facilitated sessions examining the natural world (24–28 February 2014, 11am – 1pm & 2pm – 4pm).

  • At St Fagans, find out how people cooked food, kept warm and built houses in the past in special Sustainability Workshops (25 – 28 Feb, 11am, 1pm & 3pm). And where better to end the school holidays than St Fagans by Celebrating St David’s Day on March 1st with folk dancing, traditional baking, giant daffodils and a complimentary Welsh cake.

    Entry to both Museums is free, thanks to the support of the Welsh Assembly Government.

Dewch i oriel Gwreiddiau: Canfod y Gymru Gynnar cyn dydd Llun 3 Mawrth 2014 i weld eich hoff wrthrychau archaeolegol.

    Yn ein gweithdai Rwy’n Caru Archaeoleg rhwng 11am a 4pm ar 22-28 Chwefror, bydd cyfle i ddysgu mwy am ein casgliadau a chyfrannu at waith celf ar y cyd.
    Dewch i ddysgu mwy am ŵr angof esblygiad, Alfred Russel Wallace, yn ein harddangosfa hanes natur hynod. Bydd gweithdai delfrydol i deuluoedd hefyd, Welwch chi Wallace?, am y cawr o wyddonydd o Oes Fictoria am 11am, 1pm a 3pm, 22-28 Chwefror.

    Hefyd i’w gweld yn Amgueddfa Genedlaethol Caerdydd mae arddangosfa o ddarluniau Syr Peter Blake o Under Milk Wood. Dyma benllanw project 25 mlynedd gan yr artist ac mae’n cynnwys portreadau, collages a darluniau o bentref dychmygol Llareggub. Cewch weithio gydag artist yn ein Gweithdy Darlunio i ddarlunio geiriau cyfarwydd a chreu collages (25-28 Chwefror, 11.30am, 1.30pm a 3.30pm).

    Mae rhaglen Sain Ffagan Amgueddfa Werin Cymru hefyd yn llawn gweithgareddau gwych ar gyfer pawb o bob oed. Bydd Cert Celf enwog yr Amgueddfa ar gael bob dydd yn ystod y gwyliau a bydd sesiynau wedi’u hwyluso yn trafod byd natur (24-28 Chwefror 2014, 11am-1pm a 2pm-4pm).

    Yn Sain Ffagan dewch draw i’n Gweithdai Cynaliadwyedd arbennig i weld sut oedd pobl yn coginio, cadw’n gynnes ac adeiladu tai yn y gorffennol (25-28 Chwefror, 11am, 1pm a 3pm). A pha le gwell i ddathlu Dydd Gŵyl Dewi a diwedd y gwyliau na Sain Ffagan? Ymunwch â ni ar Fawrth y cyntaf am ddawnsio gwerin, pobi traddodiadol, cennin Pedr anferth a phicen ar y maen am ddim!
