Your organisation, found everywhere
You get visitors. We help them find you.
When someone searches online for a museum near them, a local history society, or an upcoming heritage event, they're looking for exactly what you offer. Experience History's directory pages are optimised to appear in those searches — and your listing is on those pages.
Every featured listing includes a direct link to your own website, the same way any quality guide, directory, or visitor information site would naturally reference where to find out more. We're a genuine directory. Our job is to connect heritage enthusiasts with heritage organisations — and then get them there.
The public visiting your listing on Experience History has already demonstrated an interest in heritage. They're not accidental clicks. They're exactly the audience you want.
Common questions
Everything you need to know
Is my organisation already listed?
We have 3,600+ museums and heritage sites already in our database, sourced from public records — so there's a good chance your museum already has a basic listing. A featured listing upgrades your existing entry with a banner photograph, description, website link, and priority placement in search results.
Local history societies and events are added when submitted directly through the site.
What exactly does a featured listing include?
A featured listing gives your organisation a fully branded card in the directory — with a landscape banner photograph, a description of up to 220 characters, and a direct link to your own website. Featured listings appear above basic entries in every search and filter result, so you're seen first by visitors browsing your area or category.
For museums, you also get a richer popup on the interactive map, complete with your photo and website link.
Is a featured listing the same as paying for a link?
No. A featured listing is paid for enhanced visibility and placement within a genuine heritage directory. The link to your website is a natural, functional part of your listing — the same way any directory, guidebook, or visitor information service would point people to where they can find out more and visit you.
Experience History is a real directory, used by real people to discover real heritage organisations. Every listing reflects a genuine institution. We don't sell links — we list places.
Can I submit for free?
Yes. All museums already have a free basic listing in the directory and on the interactive map. Local history societies and heritage events can also be submitted for free — free listings include your name, location, type, and region, and are searchable across the platform.
A featured listing adds the photograph, description, website link, and priority placement that make a real difference to how many people discover you.
How quickly will my listing go live?
We review all submissions within 48 hours. Featured museum listings that include payment are typically published within 24 hours of payment being confirmed. If there's anything we need to clarify, we'll get in touch by email before publishing.
I run a small volunteer-led organisation — is this still for me?
Absolutely. Experience History was built for exactly this reason. Local history societies, single-room museums, archive groups, and volunteer-run heritage sites are as much a part of the UK's heritage as the national institutions — and they deserve to be found. Our pricing is deliberately accessible for smaller organisations, and a free basic listing means there's no barrier to appearing on the platform at all.
